Print bed
The Modix BIG Meter V4 print bed consists of a 6.35mm thick milled Alcoa Mic6 cast aluminum plate. The associated 1370-watt print bed heater requires an additional 15A AC source. Two heating zones promise uniform heating performance with low power consumption. The pressure plate can be heated up to 120°C and is coated with a 3M PEI adhesive film.
Fully automatic print bed calibration
The Modix BIG Meter V4 is equipped with an automatic print bed calibration system. As a result, Modix now offers a complete automated calibration routine that includes the following:
Bed slope calibration

IDEX extruder for dual printing
The "IDEX" stands for Independent Dual Extruder, here each of the extruders can move independently. While the active extruder is printing, the second extruder is "parked" outside the printing area. This makes dual material printing produced with IDEX technology cleaner and with a higher success rate compared to other configurations.
IDEX enables the production of advanced models with nested geometries by using water-soluble filament. A thin separating layer of water-soluble filament can be applied between the support contour of the building material and the object, saving a lot of work afterwards, which would occur when removing the regular support structure. When using soluble support material, there is no need to set a gap between the object and the support structure, this is usually the case when the same material is used for support (following picture right side). As a result, the supported surfaces on the object are obtained with a very good surface quality.
The IDEX extruder is sold as an optional add-on and includes:
A secondary pressure subsystem: Griffin pressure head, clog detector, PTFE, spool holder.
The motion system: secondary Y-axis motor with necessary components (belts, pulleys, etc.).
Metal brackets for Y-axis and print heads.
Wires, drag chains and optical end stops.
New Griffin printhead
Previously an optional upgrade, the Griffin printhead is now the standard printhead on all Modix 3D printers. It consists of a custom extruder from Bondtech (based on the BMG model) and a new hot end from Modix. The new design comes standard with every Modix printer and includes the following enhancements:
High flow rate & high printing temperatures
The Bondtech extruder features a dual drive system that grips the filament from both sides. The heater block is made of nickel-coated copper for increased heat transfer rate and compatibility with higher temperatures. The design incorporates the advanced Slice Engineering Bi-Metal Heat-Break, which expands the melt zone inside the heat block. In addition, an improved PT-1000 temperature sensor enables high-temperature printing up to 500 °C. The hotend components are rated for 500°C and have previously been verified with prints up to 340°C.
Higher reliability When printing large objects, there is usually a risk of the printhead scratching the surface or bumping against the layers of the model, which can lead to bent or broken heatbreaks. The new printhead offers rigid mounting of the heat block, reducing such failure situations.
Improved user experienceThe new printhead design facilitates nozzle replacement. The rigid mounting of the heating block enables one-handed nozzle replacement, making it even easier to change to other nozzle diameters.
Easy replacementSlice Engineering's mounting bracket design and heat-break D-shank style give users the ability to easily replace the entire printhead. This allows users to specify a complete setup for a specific filament type. i.e. one setup for abrasive, carbon-filled filament and another for prototyping with PLA.
SmartThe new printhead allows automatic Z-offset calibration between the nozzle and BL touch probe. This is easier and more precise than the manual process. A special sensor allows the BL-Touch and nozzle to touch the surface. The exact relative distance between probe and nozzle ("Z-Offset") is automatically stored in the printer.

Modix IDEX-Dual-Extruder Upgrade für noch mehr Produktivität
IDEX steht für Independent Dual Extruder, dies bedeutet das beide Druckköpfe unabhängig voneinander arbeiten können. Während der aktive Extruder am Drucken ist, wird der zweite Extruder außerhalb des Druckbereichs „geparkt“. Dadurch ist der mit der IDEX-Technologie hergestellte Doppelmaterialdruck im Vergleich zu anderen Konfigurationen sauberer und mit höherer Erfolgsquote.
IDEX ermöglicht das Fertigen von fortschrittlichen Modellen mit verschachtelten Geometrien durch die Verwendung von wasserlöslichem Filament. Es kann zwischen der Stützkontur des Baumaterials und dem Objekt eine dünne Trennschicht mit Wasserlöslichen Filament aufgetragen werden, dies erspart im Nachgang viel Arbeit, welche beim Entfernen der regulären Stützstruktur entstehen würde. Beim Verwenden von löslichem Stützmaterial muss kein Spalt zwischen Objekt und Stützstruktur eingestellt werden, dies ist normalerweise der Fall, wenn dasselbe Material für zum Stützen verwendet wird (nachfolgendes Bild rechte Seite). Dadurch erhält man die gestützten Flächen am Objekt mit einer sehr guten Oberflächenqualität.

Modix Active Air Filter (Luftfilter) - Upgrade
Modix Acitive Airfilter - Externer Luftreiniger
Der Modix Active Air Filter (MAAF) ist ein externes Luftfiltergerät. Beim schmelzen gewisser Kunststoffe, enstehen Partikel und Dämpfe die Ihre Gesundheit schädigen können. Der Active Airfilter von Modix reinigt die Druckkammer indem er Mikropartikel und Gasdämpfe aufnimmt.
Mehrstufige Filterung
Ein großer Ventilator im Inneren des Geräts saugt die Luft durch einen Entlüftungsschlauch aus der Druckkammer, anschließend wird danndie Luft durch einen Satz von drei Filtern geleitet, bevor sie zurück in den Drucker zirkuliert.
Aufbau des Filters
1. Vorfilter - Entfernt große Staubpartikel aus der Luft.2. HEPA-Filter - HEPA-Filter (High-Efficiency Particulate Absorbing), bestehend aus einer Matte aus zufällig angeordneten Glasfasern, die winzige, beim Drucken freigesetzte Partikel auffangen.3. Aktivkohlefilter - Reinigt die Luft von giftigen Dämpfen, die während des 3D-Druckprozesses freigesetzt werden.
Anschluss des Luftfilters
Alle neuen Modix-Gehäuse der Version V3 werden mit runden Ausschnitten in den schwarzen Verkleidungsteilen geliefert. Die Besitzer der Version 1.0 und 2.0 (Big-60& Big-120X) müssen Ersatzplatten für die beiden Seitenteile des oberen Deckels bestellen. Das Filtergerät ist mit zwei langen Schläuchen und einer kompatiblen Halterung ausgestattet. Die Luft wird von der Rückseite des Druckers angesaugt und zum Boden der Druckerkammer zurückgeführt.
Steuerung der Luftgeschwindigkeit
Über den Geschwindigkeitsregler haben Sie die Möglichkeit die Luftstromgeschwindigkeit zu steuern. Wenn Sie den Filter während des Druckvorgangs auf der niedrigsten Geschwindigkeit laufen lassen, hat dies keinen Einfluss auf die Innentemperatur der Kammer und sorgt gleichzeitig für eine effektive Filterung. Am Ende des Druckvorgangs können Sie die Geschwindigkeit für ein paar Minuten auf die höchste Option einstellen, um eine vollständige Reinigung der Kammer vor dem Öffnen der Türen zu gewährleisten.
Ersatzfilter
Bei täglichem Einsatz des Druckers halten die HEPA/Kohle-Kombifilter 6 bis 12 Monate und der Vorfilter 3 bis 6 Monate.Die Warnanzeige für den Filterwechsel befindet sich an der Vorderseite. Zum Ersatzfilter.

Automatic print bed calibration
The Modix BIG 60 is equipped with an automatic print bed calibration system. This is controlled by the BL touch sensor, which stores the sampled information in the controller, activating it before each print. The BIG 60 scans 100 dots and the 120X scans 200 dots on the print bed.
Dual Extruder Printhead
An optional secondary printhead is available, which allows you to produce complex models that require a support structure. These support structures can be printed from water soluble filament for example.
Extruder & Hotend
By default, the 3D printer comes with an E3D aero extruder with direct drive and adjustable tension rollers. E3D quality is also used for the hotends. The E3D Volcano heating blocks are installed here as standard. The filament diameter here is designed for 1.75mm.
